Frogfoot ADSL VPN Overview
Frogfoot offers a cost effective ADSL VPN solution. Our ADSL VPN service is aimed at companies needing to connect their branches across South Africa.
The table below compares our Frogfoot ADSL VPN solution to a Generic ADSL VPN
Frogfoot ADSL VPN
- Totally managed solution :– VPNs managed by Frogfoot.
- Uncapped accounts.
- On demand bandwidth :– pay only for what you use.
- Reliable connect directly from ADSL to Telkom backbone.
- Substantial monthly cost savings.
Generic ADSL VPN
- Unmanaged solution :– VPNs managed by client.
- Capped accounts.
- Different vendors for different parts of the solution.
- Unreliable:– back to back ADSL with dynamic DNS.

Low-cost ADSL technology
Each branch connects to the Frogfoot Data Centre (DC) based in Newlands, Cape Town, using ADSL. The ADSL router at each branch connects to a device called a DSLAM at the nearest Telkom exchange. From there the the traffic is routed via Telkom’s ATM network to the Frogfoot DC in Newlands.
Our solution differs from conventional ADSL products in the following ways:
|
Scenario 1 ( Hosted at Company HQ )

In this example:
- Application is hosted at Client HQ
- Let’s assume that each branch uses approximately 1GB per month.
- Bandwidth on link (f) = the sum of all other links
i.e. if each branch used 1GB per month, link (f) would use at least 5 GB - Total Bandwidth for network = 10 GB
Scenario 2 ( Hosted at Frogfoot DC )

In this example :
- Application is hosted at Frogfoot DC.
- Let’s assume that each branch uses approximately 1GB per month.
- Total Bandwidth for network = 6 GB
Note: Our recommended option.
Some advantages are:
- All internet traffic now goes via our DC, and not any of the branches
- adds redundancy to your network.
- charged local bandwidth rates to move the traffic to your branches.
- All branches now access the main application in the same manner
- all branches one ‘VPNhop’ away.
- once again adds redundancy.
